Australia is known world wide as one of the strongest swimming nations, and with our coastal population, it’s crucial every child learn to swim from a young age. The AIS Swimming Scholarship program gives top athletes access to accomplished coaches, undertaking intensive training programs to build the strength of mind and body required to compete both at home and abroad.
Commencing in 1981 in Canberra, the Swimming program at the AIS was one of the eight foundation sports of the Institute. All scholarship holders are able to compete in international swimming competitions, preparing them for national representation and enhancing their competition skills. The AIS also hosts specialised training sessions for selected national and international athletes, and conducts its own meets as needed.
This residential program supports both the athlete’s development as a swimmer and also their opportunities to follow academic or working careers.
