Sailing taxes the mind as well as the body. Athletes must be supremely fit and agile, have quick reflexes and a firm grasp of tactics as well as being effective problem solvers. Extra factors which make this sport so competitive include the equipment used and even the sailor’s diet.
The AIS Sailing Scholarship program was established in 2001 with Yachting Australia in Sydney, which is the current administration centre. Aiming to support athletes in their goal to take out a top ten spot in Olympic class events, and to assist them in getting onto the team for the Games, the program focuses on combining state of the art science and medicine with world-class facilities and coaches.
