The newly formed National Rowing Centre of Excellence (NRCE) is a joint venture between Rowing Australia and the AIS. Supplying athletes of this demanding physical sport with world-class coaching and training, its vision is to be the most successful international world rowing program and to secure sustainable medal winning performance at both Olympic and Paralympic Games.
To achieve these aims, it has developed strategies in national leadership, performance management, team selection, resource management, sports science and medicine, international competition and effective communication. It set its sight on winning three Gold medals at the London Olympic Games of 2012, another gold at the Paralympic Games 2012, and is hoping to increase the number of athletes and coaches who can perform and succeed at these high, elite levels.
With its key partners the AIS, the Australian Sports Commission and the States Institutes and Academies of Sport, the NRCE is headed up by the National High Performance Director, supported by National Head Coaches for both the Women and Men’s team, and the Elite Development Manager.
